About Cenotes Choo-Ha, Tamcach-Ha y Multun-Ha
South of the village of Cobá, a few kilometers apart, are three underground cenotes managed by the local community: Choo-Ha, Tamcach-Ha and Multun-Ha. Each is a limestone cave with a freshwater pool at the bottom, lit by a small opening in the roof or by artificial lights.
Choo-Ha is the shallowest, with stalactites hanging almost down to the water. Tamcach-Ha is tall and deep, with platforms from which people can jump into the water. Multun-Ha is an enclosed cave, with a long stairway down to a very clear lake.
Visits are via wooden stairs and stone steps, and you pay an entrance fee for each cenote or a combined ticket. Because they are off the main route, they usually have fewer visitors than the coastal cenotes.
Before descending, you must take a shower, and regular sunscreen and insect repellent are not allowed.
