About Xpu-Ha Beach
Xpu-Ha beach lies in a bay between Puerto Aventuras and Akumal, at kilometer 265 on highway 307. The name comes from Maya and is often translated as water that springs forth, referring to the network of underground rivers and cenotes that flow into this part of the coast.
The sand is white and fine, and the reef in front of the bay generally keeps the sea shallow and calm, with clear water. It is a long beach with coconut trees and coastal vegetation, and it is usually quieter than the beaches in Playa del Carmen and Tulum.
You can swim, snorkel near the rocks, and paddle in kayaks or on stand-up paddleboards. Along the beach there are palapa stands and beachfront restaurants serving fish and seafood.
As on the rest of the Riviera Maya coast, sargassum can wash up on the sand in some months, more common between April and August; amounts vary day by day.

From December to April, in the dry season, when the sea is usually clearer. Sargassum is more common between April and August. Arriving in the morning helps you find shade and a spot on the sand.
How to get there
It is about 5 km south of Puerto Aventuras along highway 307. Access roads leave the highway around kilometer 265, via dirt tracks to the sand; some go through beach clubs that may charge an entrance fee or require consumption. Shared vans between Playa del Carmen and Tulum stop on the highway, and from there it’s about a 10-minute walk.
Tip
Bring insect repellent for the dirt path between the highway and the beach and a snorkel mask. Prefer reef-safe sunscreen.
