About Garden of Eden Cenote
The Cenote Jardín del Edén, also called Ponderosa, is about 3 km from Puerto Aventuras and 25 km south of Playa del Carmen, next to highway 307. It is one of the largest open-air cenotes in the region: a large well of green and blue water in the middle of the jungle, with tree roots hanging down the stone edges.
The water has different levels. There are shallow parts and flat stones, almost at the surface, where you can sit and rest, and areas that reach about 15 meters deep. From the surrounding stone cliffs, many visitors jump into the deep section.
Underwater, Jardín del Edén is part of the Ponderosa cave system. Divers come from Playa del Carmen and Tulum to see the cave, the layer where fresh water meets salt water, and the beams of light that enter through the opening. Snorkelers can already see the bottom and the small fish.
The place is rustic, with rest areas and restrooms. To protect the water, do not enter with soap, perfume, regular sunscreen, or insect repellent, and take your trash with you.
