About Cenote Azul
Cenote Azul is next to highway 307, around kilometer 266, just south of Puerto Aventuras and neighboring the Cristalino and Jardín del Edén cenotes. It is not the Cenote Azul of Bacalar further south: this is a Riviera Maya cenote about 20 minutes by car from Playa del Carmen.
Instead of a single well, it is a set of open-air natural pools about 200 meters long, connected by wooden walkways and trails through the jungle. Each pool has a different depth, from shallow areas good for children to deep parts with rocks used for jumping.
The water is clear and full of small fish that often nibble lightly at the feet of those who stand still. There are flat stones half-submerged for sitting in the water and more hidden corners under limestone edges that can be explored with a mask.
Because it has so many shallow areas, it is one of the region’s family favorites. Near the entrance there is a small shop with snacks and drinks.
