Confirm before buying. From Cancún airport (CUN), about 55 km away, direct buses run to Playa del Carmen's bus terminal throughout the day; there are also transfers and authorized taxis. Buses and shared vans connect the town to Cancún and Tulum via highway 307.

How many days

Two days for Quinta Avenida, the beaches and Parque de los Fundadores. As a base, the town works well for a week of day trips to Cozumel, Akumal, Tulum and cenotes.

When to go

The dry season usually runs from December to April; from May to October there is more rain, in short showers. Sargassum commonly appears from April to August. The town fills up at New Year and during Holy Week.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

No. The center is walkable and shared vans and the buses on highway 307 connect Playa del Carmen with Cancún, Akumal and Tulum. A car helps for more distant cenotes and for the Puerto Morelos Cenote Route.
