About Templo de San Francisco e Museo Regional

The temple of San Francisco stands in Jardín Zenea, in the heart of Querétaro's center. The church was built from the 16th century and has been remodeled several times; the dome is covered with tiles brought from Spain in the 18th century. It was the city's first cathedral.

The former Franciscan convent beside it houses the Regional Museum of Querétaro, with rooms of archaeology, colonial painting and history. The collection includes objects related to independence, the Second Empire and the Constitution of 1917, such as the table where the sentence against Maximilian was signed.

The cloister has stone arcades and mural paintings, and from the upper floor you can see the church's dome.

Across from it, Jardín Zenea, with its bandstand and shoeshiners, is a meeting point for locals, and from there the pedestrian promenades of the center begin.
