About Mercado de Dulces y Artesanías
Morelia’s sweets and crafts market operates on the ground floor of the old Jesuit college, next to the Palacio Clavijero in the center. Dozens of stalls sell typical Michoacán sweets.
The best known are ate, a fruit paste made from guava, quince and mango; morelianas, discs of burnt dulce de leche between thin wafers; chongos and milk- and amaranth-based sweets.
In the same space there are craft stalls from various regions of the state, such as pottery, hammered copper from Santa Clara del Cobre, lacquerware from Uruapan and Purépecha embroidered clothing.
The Palacio Clavijero next door is a cultural center with a large courtyard and exhibitions.
