About Playa Carrizalillo
Carrizalillo is a small crescent-shaped beach surrounded by rocks and vegetation, in the Rinconada neighborhood west of downtown Puerto Escondido. It is reached by a staircase of about 160 steps that descends from the cliff to the sand.
The cove is protected from the Pacific’s big waves, and the water is usually calm, green and clear—good for swimming and snorkeling near the rocks. In the corner of the beach small, regular waves form and are used by surf schools for beginner lessons.
On the sand there are simple restaurants, board rentals and snorkel equipment. The beach is small and gets crowded on weekends and in high season.
From the top of the staircase you can see the whole cove, one of the most photographed spots in town.
