About Parque Nacional Huatulco
Huatulco National Park was created in 1998 and protects about 12,000 hectares of land and sea among the bays of Huatulco. It includes beaches such as Cacaluta, Maguey, Órgano, Chachacual and San Agustín, coral reefs and a strip of dry forest that loses its leaves in the dry season and turns green with the rains.
Colorful fish, rays, moray eels and turtles live on the reefs, and dolphins often appear in the bays. In the forest you can see iguanas, coatis and many birds. Some beaches, like Cacaluta and Chachacual, can only be reached by boat or by trails.
The most common visit is the boat tour that departs from Santa Cruz marina and circulates the bays, with stops for swimming and snorkeling and sometimes lunch at beach restaurants in Maguey or San Agustín. There are also trails and viewpoints accessible by road.
Access to park areas is controlled, and the protected beaches have rules to preserve the reefs.
