About Cascada de Tamul

The Tamul waterfall is the highest in San Luis Potosí, about 105 meters. The Gallinas River plunges over a rock face into the Santa María canyon, with turquoise water, and in flood season the fall can exceed 300 meters in width.

The classic trip is by wooden canoe with local guides: you paddle about an hour and a half upstream, through the canyon, to a point opposite the fall, and return downstream. Part of the route requires getting out of the canoe and pushing it through some rapid sections.

Along the way is the Cueva del Agua, a cave with a blue water pool where you can swim.

There is also a lookout above the waterfall, reachable by dirt road and trail, from which you can see the Gallinas River falling into the canyon.
