About Avenida Revolución
Avenida Revolución, the Revu, has been Tijuana's most famous street since the 1920s, when Prohibition in the United States brought bars, casinos and American visitors to the city. Today it concentrates bars, restaurants, craft shops and pharmacies between the border and downtown.
In one of the avenue's restaurants, run by Italian immigrant Caesar Cardini, the Caesar salad was, according to tradition, created in the 1920s; the restaurant remains open and prepares the salad tableside.
Between the blocks, old commercial passageways like Pasaje Rodríguez have been taken over by galleries, cafés, bookstores and craft breweries, showcasing the city's young cultural scene.
The donkeys painted like zebras for photos are an old avenue tradition. The monumental arch at the start of the Revolución marks the center.
