About Malecón e Mercado Negro de Ensenada

Ensenada's malecón runs along the port, with fishing boats, yachts and cruise ships. In Ventana al Mar square a giant Mexican flag waves on a mast over 100 meters tall and can be seen across the bay.

At the start of the malecón is the fish market, called Mercado Negro, with stalls selling fish, shrimp, oysters and fresh shellfish. Around it, stands serve battered fish tacos and ceviche, city specialties.

Fishing trips depart from the port and, from December to April, boats go out to see the gray whales that pass through Bahía de Todos Santos.

A few blocks away, Avenida López Mateos concentrates shops, cafés and bars, including a cantina from 1892, one of the oldest in California.
