About Cenote Zací
The Zací cenote is inside the city of Valladolid, about three blocks from the main square. The name comes from Zací, the Maya settlement that stood here before the Spanish founding of the city.
It is a large, deep sinkhole, partly covered by a rock vault with stalactites and partly open to the sky, with roots and plants descending the walls. The water is dark green and cold. A path with steps leads down to the edge, where swimming is possible.
Around the cenote there is a small park and a restaurant. Because it is downtown, it’s easy to fit between other visits, and it usually has less traffic than the better-known cenotes nearby.
There is an entrance fee and a life jacket is recommended because the water is deep.
