About Playa Norte
Playa Norte occupies the northern tip of Isla Mujeres, a few minutes' walk from the pier and the village streets. It is a strip of white, fine sand that wraps around the tip of the island, with coconut trees and palapas, facing shallow, clear water.
What sets the beach apart is its depth: for much of it you can walk many meters out with the water at waist height. Because it faces north and is sheltered by the island itself, the sea is usually calm, without the waves of the open side. For this reason it is popular with families with children and those who just want to float.
On the western tip of the beach a small bridge leads to a tiny islet with a hotel; the rest of the strip is public, with beach bars and chair rentals. The sunset is seen from the west side, facing the bay and Cancún.
On weekends and in high season the beach fills up with day-trip visitors, especially at midday.
