About Carmel Beach
Carmel Beach is at the end of Ocean Avenue, adjacent to Carmel-by-the-Sea’s center. The stretch of sand has cypresses and houses along the upper edge of the coast.
The walk between the center and the sea allows combining the low urban scale with Pacific scenery. The water is usually cold and the waves can change the suitability for swimming; the visit does not need to depend on entering the water.
To plan a stop at Carmel Beach, choose the public access and adapt the route to the tide and wind, leaving margin to return up toward the center. The exposed coast can change the perceived temperature compared with the town streets; walking clothes should account for wind as well as the season.
