About WA Museum Boola Bardip
WA Museum Boola Bardip is the state museum of Western Australia and is located in the cultural centre of Perth, in Northbridge. The name, in the Noongar language, means "many stories", and the building combines historic structures, such as the old Perth gaol from the 19th century, with a modern wing designed by the Hassell and OMA offices.
The galleries tell the story of Western Australia from the Aboriginal peoples, who have lived in the region for tens of thousands of years, to mining and immigration. The state's nature is featured in rooms about the ocean, the desert and the forests, with fossils, meteorites and animals.
The most famous exhibit is the skeleton of a blue whale about 24 metres long, suspended in the entrance hall. There are also areas with activities for children and temporary exhibitions, which are often charged separately.
The cultural centre also houses the Art Gallery of Western Australia and the state library, a few steps from the museum.
