About Swan Valley
Swan Valley lies on the upper course of the Swan River, between the historic town of Guildford and the Darling Range, about a 25-minute drive from Perth CBD. The first vines were planted there in 1829, the same year the colony was founded, and the valley is the state's oldest wine region.
The valley brings together more than 40 wineries, plus craft breweries, distilleries, chocolate, cheese, olive and nougat producers, and art galleries. Typical wines include chenin blanc, verdelho, shiraz and fortified wines, favoured by the warm, dry climate.
Most wineries welcome visitors for tastings, and many have restaurants with vineyard views. In Guildford, the visitor centre provides maps of food and wine routes.
The valley can also be reached by boat on a Swan River cruise departing from Perth centre. Caversham Wildlife Park sits on the edge of the valley and can be combined in the same day.
