About Mirante das Três Rondavels
The Three Rondavels viewpoint sits on the edge of the Blyde River Canyon, about 15 km north of Bourke's Luck. From there you can see three rock peaks with vegetated tops that resemble rondavels, the round huts with conical roofs common in southern Africa.
Below, the Blyde River forms the Blydepoort dam, between cliffs covered in forest. The canyon is about 26 km long and, unlike dry canyons, remains green year-round.
The three peaks are named after the wives of a local chief, according to tradition. Beside them, other cliffs and peaks extend toward the Lowveld.
There is more than one viewpoint a short walk from the parking area. Late afternoon lights the cliffs head-on.
