The city
Pretoria, in the municipality of Tshwane, is the administrative capital of South Africa, about 60 km from Johannesburg. It is the city of the Union Buildings, the seat of the Presidency, where Mandela was inaugurated in 1994, and of the embassies. On the hills to the south are the Voortrekker Monument and Freedom Park, facing each other. In spring, thousands of jacarandas turn the streets purple.
