The city

What to expect from Gansbaai.

Gansbaai is a fishing village about 40 km from Hermanus at the southern end of Walker Bay. From the nearby Kleinbaai harbour boats depart to Dyer Island and the Shark Alley channel, an area of great white sharks and a seal colony. Nearby are the Danger Point lighthouse, above the reefs where the Birkenhead sank in 1852, and Klipgat cave in Walker Bay reserve, with evidence of habitation over 70,000 years ago.
