About Central Beach e Beacon Isle
Central Beach is Plettenberg Bay's town beach, with white sand and the Beacon Isle rock in the middle, connected to the sand. The island's name comes from a navigation beacon placed there in the 18th century. Today there is a hotel on the rock, with beach on both sides.
The water is calmer than at the bay's open beaches, and lifeguards are on duty in season. Fishing and tour boats are launched from the sand, and boat trips to see dolphins, seals and, from July to November, whales depart from here.
To the north the sand continues as Lookout Beach at the mouth of the Keurbooms River; to the south it becomes Robberg Beach, long and quieter, stretching to the Robberg peninsula.
The town's main street sits high on the hill with views over the whole bay.
