When to go
Winter, from May to August, is dry and mild, with the sea still pleasant. Summer is hot and humid, with rain and crowded beaches in December and January.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
Not necessary for the seafront and downtown, which are walkable or accessible by ride‑hail or taxi. To reach the Drakensberg, iSimangaliso and the northern beaches, a car is the most practical option.
