About Monk's Cowl e vale de Champagne

The Champagne valley climbs from Winterton toward the escarpment, passing farms, guesthouses and golf courses, and ends at the Monk's Cowl campsite, an entrance to the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park. Above it rise Champagne Castle, at about 3,377 metres, and the Monk's Cowl peak, which resembles a monk's hood.

From the park office there are waymarked trails of varying difficulty: to the Sterkspruit natural pools, the waterfall of the same name and the Nandi's Falls viewpoint, or longer climbs through forest up to the high-altitude plains.

The valley also has activities outside the park, such as horseback riding, birdwatching and a visit to the Drakensberg boys' choir, a music school that gives performances open to the public.

It is the central Drakensberg area with the most accommodation and restaurant options.
