About Cathedral Peak e Didima
Cathedral Peak is an isolated peak of about 3,004 metres that rises in front of the escarpment in the central Drakensberg, roughly 45 km from Winterton. The area around it is part of the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park and features valleys with native forest, clear rivers and basalt cliffs.
Trails range from short hikes of a few hours, such as the Rainbow Gorge which follows the river through a narrow gorge, to full-day climbs to the summit that require fitness and registration in the mountain book. Mike's Pass road, taken on a guided drive, climbs to a plateau with views over the escarpment.
At the Didima camp in the park, an interpretation centre displays San rock art, with replicas of paintings, videos and a reconstruction of a stone shelter. Guided walks depart from there to shelters with original paintings.
The Didima chalets were designed to evoke the stone shelters where the San lived.
