About Kamberg e o abrigo de Game Pass
Kamberg is a reserve of the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park in the Mooi River valley, about an hour north of Underberg. The rock art centre explains, with video and exhibits, who the san were, how they painted and what the figures mean.
From the centre a guided walk leads to the Game Pass shelter, about 3 km uphill across fields and slopes. In the shelter, a panel of paintings shows elands, the most important antelope for the san, and a half-human figure holding the tail of a dying eland — a scene that helped researchers understand the religious meaning of san art. For this reason the shelter became known as the Rosetta Stone of rock art.
The paintings are fragile and can only be seen with a guide, from behind a fence, without touching or wetting the rock.
The reserve also has trails, trout dams and chalets.
