About Muizenberg Beach
Muizenberg sits on the edge of False Bay, about 25 km from Cape Town city centre. The beach, wide with small waves, is known for the Victorian bathing huts painted in bright colours, lined up on the sand in front of Surfer's Corner.
It's the most popular place to learn to surf in the region: the waves break far out and slowly, and there are schools renting boards and wetsuits along the promenade. False Bay's water is often less cold than the Atlantic side in summer.
At the beginning of the 20th century the village was the resort of the Cape's elite; period mansions, such as Cecil Rhodes's summer house, still stand on Main Road.
A few kilometres to the south lies Kalk Bay, an active fishing harbour with colourful boats, seals waiting for fish on the quay, galleries and antique shops on the main street.
