About Stellenbosch University Botanical Garden
The Stellenbosch University Botanic Garden is located in the city centre, next to the campus, and serves the university's botanical research and teaching.
The grounds are small but varied. The greenhouses house tropical plants, orchids, ferns and a collection of succulents and desert plants, with species from the Karoo and Namibia, such as welwitschia. Outdoors there are beds of Cape-native plants, a pond with aquatic plants and an old bonsai.
It's a short, cool stroll during a walk through the centre, between Dorp Street and the university.
The garden has a tearoom among the beds, much frequented by locals at the weekend.
