A region to enjoy
at your own pace.

Pamukkale is located in Denizli province in Anatolia and brings together a natural formation and an archaeological city. The pale travertine slope arises from mineral deposition; above it, Hierapolis occupies a plateau that requires its own walk. The ensemble is not limited to the blue pools seen in photographs.

The circulation and distribution of water are part of the terraces' management. Visitors should expect authorized sectors, varying appearance and strong sun exposure. The theatre, necropolis, streets and the Hierapolis Museum add another scale to the visit, which deserves a well-paced day.

Denizli functions as the arrival and service hub and also brings Laodicea closer. Aphrodisias, in Geyre in Aydın province, requires a separate road journey. Staying overnight in the region makes it possible to visit these sites without reducing each to a stop between long transfers.

This destination brings together 2 cities: Pamukkale, Denizli.

Before you go

Practical information

A little planning leaves more time to enjoy the journey.

When to go

April to June and September to October usually favor walks. July and August are hot on the plateau. Winter brings shorter, colder days; the appearance of the water and the terraces varies in any season.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

How many days to stay

Two to three days: one for Pamukkale and Hierapolis, another for Aphrodisias, and an additional period for Laodicea depending on your pace.

Which city to stay in

The village of Pamukkale brings access closer to the site, but the chosen gate changes the walk. Denizli favors services and transport links. Compare these roles when deciding your base, without treating the two hubs as the same location.

Respect the place

Take your trash with you, follow the signs and support local businesses. In natural areas, follow the visiting guidelines.
