Get to know the place

A region to enjoy
at your own pace.

Marmaris is a port base of Muğla, with a bay, a castle and an archaeological museum. The town runs land programs and boat departures, but the route doesn't need to start with a multi-night cruise. The centre and the waterfront deserve their own time.

İçmeler lies in another part of the region and offers a cove with land access. Sedir, in the Gökova gulf, depends on boats and combines heritage and a protected beach. The makeup of each excursion should be checked, because similar names don't mean the same stop durations.

The Datça peninsula increases distances and changes the pace. Eski Datça shows stone houses, and Knidos occupies the tip of the coast, between ancient harbors. Spreading bases or booking additional nights prevents turning this stage into a long road day with little time at the sites.

This destination brings together 3 cities: Marmaris, İçmeler, Datça.

Before you go

Practical information

A little planning leaves more time to enjoy the journey.

When to go

May, June, September and October usually balance walking and the coast. July and August are hot. Boat trips and swimming depend on the day's conditions; winter changes the availability of services and brings more rain.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

How many days to stay

Five to six days for Marmaris, İçmeler, an outing to Sedir and two nights on the Datça peninsula. Overnight cruises require additional days depending on the itinerary.

Which city to stay in

Marmaris town centre brings castle and quay close together; İçmeler favours the cove. Datça reduces reliance on a long day trip to Knidos and allows a calmer visit to Eski Datça. Location should follow priority programs as well as the resort name.

Respect the place

Take your trash with you, follow the signs and support local businesses. In natural areas, follow the visiting guidelines.
