A region to enjoy
at your own pace.

Edirne lies in the European part of Turkey, near the borders with Greece and Bulgaria. Its history as an Ottoman capital left monuments from different periods that can be compared on a walk through the center. The journey from Istanbul travels across Thrace, without needing to cross into Anatolia.

The Selimiye draws attention for its large dome and Sinan's work. The Eski Cami and Üç Şerefeli show earlier solutions, while the bazaars link the monuments to everyday commerce. The central core is compact enough to do these visits without a car.

The Health Museum, in the Bayezid II complex, requires a separate trip and broadens the architectural theme into the history of medicine. The Great Synagogue adds the Jewish presence to the city's narrative. Staying one night helps spread these experiences, rather than making Edirne just a stop to photograph the Selimiye.
