About Salto El Limón

El Limón Waterfall is a roughly 40-meter drop that plunges from a vegetation-covered cliff into a cool, greenish pool. It lies inland on the peninsula, between Samaná and Las Terrenas, within a protected natural monument, and is one of the most popular excursions in the area.

The trail to the waterfall is about 3 km along dirt paths that cross streams, cacao, coffee and coconut plantations, and stretches of forest. Many people do the route on horseback, with riders from local families who lead the animals; on foot it takes about an hour. The final section is a descent down steps to the base.

Down there you can swim in the pool, with the sound of the fall and the water mist. The departure points, called paradas, are along the El Limón road and offer horses, guides and a typical lunch on the return.
