About Cayos Siete Hermanos
The Cayos Siete Hermanos are seven small sandy islets with low vegetation in the Atlantic off Monte Cristi, protected as a wildlife refuge. Each cayo is a very white strip of sand with shrubs, surrounded by turquoise water and coral reefs that are among the most well preserved in the country.
The islets are nesting areas for seabirds, such as gulls and terns, and for turtle nesting, so landing is limited to certain cayos and to permitted areas. The clear water and reefs make the trip one of the best for snorkeling in the north of the country.
Boats depart from Monte Cristi with fishermen and local operators, and the crossing takes about an hour depending on the wind. The excursion usually fills the whole day, with lunch brought on the boat or prepared by the fishermen.
