About Balneario Las Barías

The Balneario Las Barías is at the entrance of La Descubierta, in an area protected as a natural monument. Fresh water springs emerge there that flow from the Sierra de Neiba underground and surface in wells and channels of cold, clear water, in one of the hottest places in the country.

The springs have been arranged into stone pools, under large trees, where local families spend the day. The contrast with the dry, salty heat of Lake Enriquillo, a few kilometers away, makes bathing here an almost mandatory stop after visiting the park.

There are food and drink stalls around, and on weekends the place fills up and becomes lively. During the week it is quiet.
