About Playa El Anclote

El Anclote beach is in the fishing village of Punta de Mita, facing into Bahía de Banderas. The shallow bottom and the sand that extends into the sea produce small, long waves, good for swimming and for learning to surf and paddleboard.

The sand is occupied by seafood restaurants with tables under umbrellas, serving pescado a la talla, ceviche and aguachile. The village pier, at the corner of the beach, is the departure point for boats to the Islas Marietas and for whale-watching.

In the late afternoon the sun sets over the Pacific on the tip side, and the beach gets busy. Further along the coast there are other breaks well known to surfers, such as El Faro and La Lancha.

The village has kept its fishing-village character, alongside the gated resort areas on the point.
