About Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe

The parish of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe is Puerto Vallarta’s main church and the Centro’s landmark. Construction began in 1918 and the tower, topped by a large crown supported by angels, can be seen from many points in the city.

The original crown, made of concrete, fell in the October 1995 earthquake; the one now in place was remade in a lighter material. The interior is simple, with an image of the Virgin of Guadalupe on the altar and stained glass.

From December 1 to 12, the feast of the Virgin of Guadalupe brings daily processions from neighborhoods, businesses and associations that descend the Centro’s streets to the church with music, dances and floral offerings.

The church is one block from the malecón and fits naturally into a Centro walk. As an active place of worship, visitors should wear appropriate clothing and remain quiet during masses.
