About Malecón de Puerto Vallarta
The malecón is the roughly 1 km promenade that runs along the sea in the Centro of Puerto Vallarta, from the Cinco de Diciembre neighborhood to the Río Cuale. It was rebuilt after Hurricane Kenna in 2002 and expanded in 2010, when it became pedestrian‑only.
Along it are sculptures in bronze and other materials by artists such as Sergio Bustamante, Alejandro Colunga and Ramiz Barquet. The most photographed is "Nostalgia" by Barquet, showing a couple seated looking at the sea; the "Seahorse" is the city's symbol.
In front of the Plaza de Armas is the Los Arcos amphitheater, with stone arches, where performances take place on weekends. On the other side of the avenue, streets climb the hill to the church of Guadalupe and the Centro’s white houses.
At dusk the malecón is the most popular spot to watch the sunset over the bay, and at night the bars and restaurants on the avenue facing the sea fill up.
