About Jardín Botánico de Vallarta
The Vallarta Botanical Garden is located at kilometer 24 of highway 200, south of Puerto Vallarta, about 400 meters above sea level, in the mountain jungle. It opened to the public in 2005 and covers about 32 hectares, most of which are maintained as reserve.
Collections include orchids and vanilla, cultivated in a greenhouse and attached to trees along the trails, cacti and succulents, palms and native plants of the Mexican Pacific coast. The garden works on conservation of orchids and threatened plants of the region.
Trails descend through the jungle to the Horcones River, where there are natural pools permitted for swimming. Along the way it is common to see birds and butterflies, and there are viewpoints with valley views.
The garden's restaurant, on a terrace above the jungle, serves Mexican food. The garden typically closes on Mondays during the rainy season; check before you go.
