About Isla del Río Cuale
The isla del Río Cuale sits in the middle of the river that separates the Centro from the Zona Romántica, a short walk from the sea. Once occupied by modest houses, it was turned into a park after the floods from Hurricane Lily in 1971.
Pedestrian suspension bridges link the island to both banks. The main path passes under large trees, between craft shops, riverside restaurants and the cultural center, which offers art classes.
At the seaward tip of the island is the Museo Arqueológico del Cuale, small, with pieces from ancient cultures of western Mexico. Nearby is a statue of director John Huston, who filmed "The Night of the Iguana" in Mismaloya.
The walk is short and shaded, good for the hottest hours of the day, and naturally connects the malecón to the Zona Romántica.
