About Centro Histórico de Mazatlán e Plazuela Machado
Mazatlán’s historic center comprises about 180 blocks of 19th-century houses and warehouses, built when the port received ships from Europe and Asia and immigrants from Germany, Spain and France arrived. After decades of neglect, the neighborhood was restored and the colorful mansions became hotels, galleries, cafés and restaurants.
The heart of the neighborhood is Plazuela Machado, from 1837, with a bandstand, palm trees and mansions with iron balconies. At night, restaurant tables spill onto the sidewalks and there is live music.
A few blocks away are the Pino Suárez market, dating to 1900, with an iron structure where seafood, fruit and food are sold, and the cathedral with yellow towers.
The neighborhood is walked on flat streets, and pulmonías take you to the malecón and Olas Altas beach in a few minutes.
