About Jardín Borda
The Jardín Borda was created at the end of the 18th century by the family of the miner José de la Borda, who grew wealthy from Taxco silver, around a house in downtown Cuernavaca. It features terraces, stairways, fountains, an artificial lake and fruit trees.
In the 19th century, Emperor Maximilian and Empress Carlota used the house and garden as a summer residence. A famous painting shows Maximilian on the lake with the local gardener who charmed him.
Today the complex is a cultural center, with exhibition rooms, and the lake has rowboats for rides.
It is located in front of the cathedral, a few blocks from the Palacio de Cortés.
