About Cristo Monumental de Taxco
The Cristo Monumental sits atop Atache hill, above downtown Taxco. It is a white statue of Christ with outstretched arms, about 20 meters tall, inaugurated in 2002, and visible from many points in town.
From the viewpoint surrounding the statue you get a broad view of Taxco: the white houses with red roofs scattered on the slopes, the towers and dome of Santa Prisca in the middle, and, beyond, the mountains of northern Guerrero.
The ascent is made by taxi or van along steep, narrow streets. There is also a cable car that climbs from the town entrance to Monte Taxco hill, another viewpoint on the opposite side.
At late afternoon the light turns the town golden, and at night the lit houses trace a pattern on the slopes.
