About Parque Florestal de Colo-i-Suva (Colo-i-Suva Forest Park)
Colo-i-Suva Forest Park sits in the hills north of Suva along Princes Road, about 20 minutes from the centre. It is an area of wet tropical forest with native trees and old mahogany plantations, crossed by streams that form small waterfalls and natural pools.
There are about 6.5 km of waymarked trails that descend from the visitor centre to the pools, cross bridges over the streams and climb through stretches of closed canopy forest. The most popular pools, such as the Lower Pools, have ropes for jumping into the water and rocks for sunbathing.
The forest is one of the best places near Suva for birdwatching: around 30 of Fiji’s 57 land bird species have been recorded in the park, including parrots, pigeons and flycatchers.
The park is on the wetter side of Viti Levu, and trails are often wet and slippery. It’s a half-day outing, good to combine with a visit to central Suva.
