About Rio Navua (Navua River)

The Navua River rises in the Namosi mountains in the interior of Viti Levu and flows to the sea at the town of Navua, east of Pacific Harbour. In its upper course the river runs through a narrow canyon with rocky walls covered in forest and waterfalls that drop straight into the water.

There are two ways to experience the river. Motorboat trips go upstream from Navua, pass riverside villages and stop at a waterfall for swimming, sometimes including a village visit. Rafting and inflatable dinghies descend the canyon stretch in upper Navua, with moderate rapids.

Upper Navua is a conservation area established with local communities, which receive a share of tour fees. The canyon scenery is one of the best-known inland landscapes in Fiji.

Tours depart from Pacific Harbour, Navua and also Suva and the Coral Coast, with hotel pick-up. The boat trip is gentle and suitable for all ages; rafting requires some physical effort.
