About Pico de Vatuvula (Vatuvula)
Vatuvula is the rocky peak of Waya Lailai, the islet attached to Waya, in the southern Yasawa chain. The dark volcanic rock rises almost vertically above the beach and village, and the summit is one of the best-known viewpoints in the Yasawa.
The trail starts near the beach, crosses a stretch of forest and grassland and ends in a rocky ascent, with sections where you need to use your hands. The hike usually takes about 1 hour to climb and is done with a village guide, who knows the route and the safest spots to reach the top.
From the summit you can see the lagoon between Waya and Waya Lailai, Waya’s hills, which reach about 570 meters, and the line of islands extending north. On clear days the Mamanuca appear to the south and Viti Levu to the east.
The peak is also used by rock climbers, but the normal climb does not require equipment. The best light for photos is usually early morning and late afternoon.
