About Praias de Mana
Mana Island has white-sand beaches on both sides, linked by trails that cross the island through coconut groves. The north beach has the reef closest to shore, and it is where the easiest snorkeling is done: with a mask and fins you can see corals, colourful fish and, with luck, turtles a few metres from the water's edge.
The south beach is calmer with a sandy bottom, good for swimming. On the west side, the beach known as Sunset Beach is the most popular spot late in the afternoon, when the sun sets behind the neighbouring islands.
A trail rises to the top of Mana's hill, from where you can see the reef around the island and the other Mamanuca islands. The climb is short but steep in places; it's worth going early or late in the afternoon when it's cooler.
There is also a small Fijian village on the island. Visits are done with a guide or arranged by the accommodation, and visitors should wear clothing that covers shoulders and knees.

Practical information
Cidade Turismo reviews its information regularly, but something may have changed. Check with the place before planning your trip.
How much time to set aside
Half a day for the north beach and snorkeling, or a full day combining the beaches and the hill trail.
Best time
At high tide snorkeling is easier because the water covers the reef close to the shore. As in all the Mamanucas, the tide noticeably changes the beach throughout the day: check the tide table at your accommodation. From May to October days are usually dry and sunny.
How to get there
By catamaran from Port Denarau in about 1 hour, or on short flights from Nadi to Mana's airstrip. On the island everything is done on foot along the trails between the beaches.
Tip
Bring water shoes for entering the sea where there are corals and rocks. For the hill trail, bring water and a hat.
