Get to know the place
Niagara Falls sit on the border between the United States and Canada, but the American side has its own circuit of parks, viewpoints and waterside walks. Niagara Falls is the town at the base of the falls, while Buffalo provides an airport, architecture and museums.
Goat Island separates views of the falls and allows walks between overlooks. The Maid of the Mist brings visitors close to the mist on the river; the Cave of the Winds uses walkways at the base of Bridal Veil Falls. The two attractions operate under different seasonal conditions.
Buffalo deserves time beyond just arrival by plane, with the Martin House and the Buffalo AKG Art Museum. The trip is not a comfortable day trip from New York: allow a dedicated stop. The Canadian side involves another border and paperwork, which is not required to visit the U.S. park.

✈ Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF), in Cheektowaga · 16 km to Buffalo
Confirm before booking. Fly into BUF and continue to Buffalo or Niagara Falls by ground transport. There are trains to both cities; the trip from New York takes most of a day.

Buffalo sits at the eastern end of Lake Erie and offers more than the Niagara Falls airport. The Martin House showcases Frank Lloyd Wright’s architecture, the Buffalo AKG brings together art, and Canalside reconnects the downtown with the water.
Niagara Falls, in New York State, is the town on the American side of the falls. Niagara Falls State Park concentrates viewpoints, Goat Island, the Maid of the Mist boat and the Cave of the Winds walkways, with walking routes between the town and the riverbank.

A little planning leaves more time to enjoy the journey.
May to October usually offers more options for waterside tours. From December to March it’s very cold and seasonal circuits may not operate.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Three days allow time for Buffalo, the falls and the water tours; add extra time if you cross the border.
Niagara Falls makes the park walkable; Downtown Buffalo covers museums and restaurants and places the airport within the same metropolitan area.
Take your trash with you, follow the signs and support local businesses. In natural areas, follow the visiting guidelines.
