About Estádio Moses Mabhida
Moses Mabhida Stadium was built for the 2010 World Cup, near Durban’s northern seafront. The name honors Moses Mabhida, a trade‑union leader and anti‑apartheid activist born in KwaZulu‑Natal. Its most recognizable feature is the large white arch that spans the stadium end to end, inspired by the national flag where the two arms of the Y meet.
The arch is about 106 metres high and can be ascended in two ways: by a cable car that runs along it to the upper platform, or on foot via a staircase of about 550 steps, in groups and with safety equipment. From the top you can see into the stadium, the seafront, the port and the sea.
For thrill seekers there is also a giant swing that jumps from the arch into the stadium. On match or concert days activities may change.
Around the stadium there is a park with paths and a bike lane that links to the Golden Mile promenade.
