How to get there

  • Eger vasútállomás 2 km

Approximate road distances. Check flights and bus schedules before you travel.

Confirm before buying. Trains and buses depart Budapest for Eger. The rail station is separate from the old core; complete the leg on foot, by local bus or taxi.

How many days

Two days allow visiting the castle and the center. For Hollókő, allocate another day and check the road connection.

When to go

In Eger’s center, April to June and September to October usually favor walks with mild temperatures. Summer, June to August, has long days and warm periods; December to February is usually cold, with less light for walls and streets.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

For the center, walk. A car eases the exit to Hollókő, but train and bus serve arrival to the city.
