About Tokaj-Hegyalja
Tokaj-Hegyalja is a vineyard landscape that extends across several localities in northeastern Hungary. The world heritage site involves more than the town of Tokaj: it includes the relationship between slopes, cultivation, settlements and structures linked to winemaking.
Reading the landscape is done along authorised roads and paths, observing the lay of the land and the relationship between inhabited centres. The vineyards are on properties with different uses and rules; viewing the slopes does not mean free access to the interior of any plot or cellar.
Choose a sector of the region and confirm how to get there and where to walk. From September to October part of the harvest season usually takes place, depending on the year and grape variety, but this does not guarantee activities open to visitors. Book in advance on the official website when the chosen outing requires reservation.
