About Egri Bazilika

Egri Bazilika rises before a broad flight of steps in Eger’s central area. The columned portico defines the building’s neoclassical language. Its position creates a visual axis different from that of the castle, which sits above the old streets.

A visit inside allows you to appreciate the scale of the nave and the religious decoration. The building dates from the 19th century and should not be confused with the remains of an older church within the fortification. The interest lies both in the exterior composition and the worship space.

Walk the steps and view the façade from some distance before entering. Because it remains in religious use, the basilica manages tourist access according to its activities. Its proximity to the center makes it easy to include the visit between walks without needing a car.
